Smyrna’s first Brush & Box Fest brought live mural painting to Village Green Park, where 20 Metro Atlanta artists created works in real time during the city’s first event of its kind.
The city said the murals will remain on display throughout downtown Smyrna during the summer. The event turned Village Green Park into an open-air art studio and gave residents a chance to watch artists work, meet them and experience public art as it was being created.
The update was included in the city’s June 29-July 3 staff report to the mayor and council, which also highlighted activity across several city departments.
The Smyrna Library and Museum reported strong turnout for recent programs. The library welcomed 140 children and parents across two sessions for a Natural Kingdom animal program featuring reptiles, amphibians, insects and other creatures. The Smyrna Museum also hosted a train-themed activity day that drew more than 300 children and parents.
The library reported 5,572 weekly visitors, while the museum reported 329.
The Smyrna Fire Department hosted Stop the Bleed training in partnership with Wellstar, with 33 employees from across city departments participating. The department reported 151 weekly calls, including four fire calls, 100 medical calls and 47 other calls.
The Smyrna Police Department was recognized for its 2025 DUI enforcement efforts at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Shields of Honor Awards Banquet in Macon. The department earned first place among Georgia agencies with 51 to 100 sworn officers after making 314 DUI arrests during the 2025 calendar year.
Police also reported 732 calls, 281 traffic stops, 132 citations, 142 warnings and 18 arrests for the week.
In community development, the city reported 119 inspections across 57 sites, with a total estimated construction cost of $557,900.75. The report listed new businesses including Common Ground Advisors, The Human Truth, Grays Stone Masonry, Jetts Travel Vacations, L Evans Consulting, West Smyrna Swim & Tennis Club, Rosado Boxing, Verbal Image and MackmeOver.
Other city updates included new pavement markings in the library parking lot, traffic sign replacements at South Cobb Drive and Wisteria Lane, environmental programs at River Line Park and Brinkley Park, and summer recreation offerings including the River Line Splash Pad and Cup Daze soccer viewing events at Village Green Park.
