Smyrna plans to begin replacing all city water meters within the next one to three weeks as part of a citywide water infrastructure project expected to continue through late 2027.
The city said the work will be completed in phases by section rather than across the entire city at once. Residents will receive additional information before crews begin work in their area.
The Water and Sewer Division said the project is intended to modernize Smyrna’s water infrastructure and improve the reliability and accuracy of the city’s water system.
Work is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. No work will be performed on holidays or weekends. The timeline remains subject to weather and material availability.
The city said that water meters located in the public right-of-way will be replaced. Public Works will restore disturbed areas after installation is complete.
Residents with privately installed improvements in the public right-of-way, such as irrigation systems, landscape lighting, invisible pet fence wiring or other utilities, are being asked to mark or relocate them before work begins. The city said it is not responsible for repairing privately installed utilities within the public right-of-way under City Ordinance Section 90-4.
Temporary water service interruptions may occur during meter replacement, though crews will work to restore service as quickly as possible.
