SMYRNA, Georgia — The Smyrna Market Pavilion is coming down Monday, and residents will eventually get to see what might replace it.
The city said the pavilion must be removed because of its age and condition. In its place, Smyrna plans to install temporary benches and add green space, ensuring the area remains, in the city’s words, “inviting and accessible.”
So, for now, the grand vision is benches.
A concept design for the new pavilion will be shared with the public as the project progresses. That means demolition comes first, followed at some unspecified point by a picture showing residents what the city hopes to build.
The city did not provide a construction schedule, estimated cost or target date for opening the replacement pavilion. It also did not say whether residents will have an opportunity to weigh in before the concept moves forward.
Smyrna thanked the community for its patience and understanding as officials work toward an “enhanced gathering space.”
Until then, residents can gather around the temporary benches and imagine the possibilities.
