The Smyrna Library has received a significant donation of Civil War-related books and maps from the personal library of historian Leon McElveen.
Museum Manager Jennie Eldredge, Library Director Mary Moore and Library Associate Ansley Murdock traveled to a warehouse in Kennesaw on June 15 to pick up the collection.
The McElveen Collection includes extensive reference materials, with a particular focus on military campaigns in Georgia and the Battle of Atlanta.
City officials said the acquisition will strengthen the library’s resources for researchers, historians and others interested in Civil War history.
