The State Board of Education has voted to recommend that Gov. Brian Kemp suspend all sitting members of the Dublin City Board of Education.
The board voted Wednesday after scheduling a hearing under state law, which requires the State Board of Education to review a local school board when a school system or school reaches the accreditation level immediately preceding loss of accreditation.
The recommendation now goes to Kemp, who will decide whether to suspend the Dublin board members. If approved, the move would affect the local board’s governance of Dublin City Schools while the district addresses accreditation concerns.
The hearing was held under O.C.G.A. § 20-2-73, which outlines the state process for reviewing local school boards facing serious accreditation issues. The law is intended to give state officials a role when governance problems threaten a school system’s standing with accrediting agencies.
