The city of Mableton has adopted its fiscal 2027 budget, a spending plan that officials argue is designed to strengthen city services.
According to a city news release, the approved budget totals $57.7 million across all funds, including a $23.2 million General Fund that pays for the city’s day-to-day operations. The new budget took effect on July 1.
The spending plan includes $21 million for public safety services, a contentious issue in the city as officials explore a long-term public safety solution with the county.
Last month, Cobb County and the City of Mableton finalized and executed an Intergovernmental Agreement authorizing Cobb County Police to continue providing law enforcement services within the City of Mableton for one year, effective June 15.
The one-year agreement provides continuity of service as Mableton prepares to establish and implement its own public safety operations. During this transition period, officials said Cobb County Police will continue delivering law enforcement services while supporting an orderly and responsible transition.
This was not the first time the city and county reached a deal tied to government services.
In June 2025, Cobb County’s Board of Commissioners approved two agenda items that formed a short-term intergovernmental agreement between the county and the city. Starting June 1, 2025, Mableton assumed full responsibility for three services: zoning and code enforcement, business licensing and permitting and waste management.
