Feds give Mableton $250,000 grant for blight

The feds are sending Mableton $250,000 to help clean up some of its eyesores.

The money, awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will go toward acquiring abandoned and rundown properties as part of the city’s broader push to eliminate blight and spur neighborhood redevelopment.

The funding comes through the fiscal 2026 Economic Development Initiative’s Community Project Funding program and was advanced through the congressional appropriations process with help from the office of Democratic U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath.

City officials say the money will help Mableton begin assembling problem properties for future redevelopment, with the goal of improving public safety, strengthening neighborhoods and turning neglected parcels into something more useful than magnets for weeds, crime and complaints.
