Cobb man sentenced to life without parole plus 490 years for rape and molestation of infant

A 27-year-old man entered a non-negotiated plea to 25 felony counts of rape, child molestation, incest and repeated sexual exploitation of an infant.

Cobb Superior Court Judge Robert Leonard sentenced Marcel Moreland to life without the possibility of parole, plus 490 years. Prosecutors said the victim was repeatedly abused and exploited when she was only a month old, and the abuse continued until she was six months old.

In a release, District Attorney Sonya F. Allen said prosecutors are responsible for seeking justice, protecting the vulnerable, and holding offenders accountable for the harm they cause. She said her office will not apologize for being relentless when the safety of our children is at stake and will pursue sentences that reflect the seriousness of the crimes.

She praised the work of Assistant District Attorney Brittany Hutton and her trial team, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the State.
